Topics

Chinese New Year

For the first week we will be finding out about Chinese New Year. 2018 is the year of the Dog and so Amanda is going to bring in one of her lovely dogs to meet the children. We will also be tasting Chinese foods and looking at beautiful costumes, listening to music and trying our own Chinese painting.

Spring, The Farm and Animals

The following three weeks will focus on ‘Spring, The Farm and Animals’. At the time of writing this, our gardens are beginning to signs of Spring. This topic will give us the opportunity to talk about how we adapt our lives to different weather conditions, as well as how birds and animals cope with changing seasons and climate changes. In the grounds of St. Andrew’s hall, we will start looking for welcoming signs that Spring is on the way. We will look at buds on the trees and early flowers, such as Aconites, Daffodils, Primroses and Bluebells as they all make their beautiful, much appreciated annual appearance. We will also talk about why and how the days are becoming lighter and warmer at this time of year. As we look at these changes, we will find out about the jobs that are being carried out at this time of year on our farms, as well as finding out about different farming methods.

Easter

The topic that we will be covering for the last week of term is Easter, an important festival in the Christian calendar. We will read the Easter Story, told in a sensitive way for young children, as well as looking at why chocolate eggs and the “Easter Bunny” have become such a part of our celebrations. We hope to visit St. Andrew’s church during Easter week. We will finish the week with an Easter Bonnet Parade on Friday 23rd March at 11.45 am – all children and families welcome, so please join us for the parade and a small Easter treat.

The main areas of learning for all these topics are, ‘Understanding the World’ (UtW), ‘Co,municatiom and Language’ (CL), ‘Personal, Social and Emotional Developmemt’ (PSED) and ‘Expressive Arts and Design’ (EAD).
Don’t forget the detailed planning is displayed daily on the large blue notice board in the front hall. The planning also includes ‘Positive Relationships: What adults could do’, and ‘Enabling Environments: What adults could provide.’
